New Zealand Iris Convention Programme 2009 Central Otago

The 2009 NZ Iris Convention was centred is one of the most spectacular parts of the world - A world of difference.

The programme offered a taste of the unique diversity of this world in combination with further exploring the world of the iris. We welcome you to Central Otago. We wish to share with you the iris in our world and more, in a programme designed for iris lovers, gardeners and for partners visiting.

Due to the diversity of the region we looked at wide range - many as an option - the natural fauna and flora of Central Otago, the history including the goldmining and the "Gold Rush Iris" Iris Albicans growing wild; The Merino - the backbone of farming in Central; viticulture and wine tasting and the cherries and stone fruit of the region. A look at the Aril Iris, dryland gardening design and photography. The Begg Shield and large number of auction irises were specatcular, grown in Central Otago, and the Dykes Medal Collection on show.

Gardens visitedl included many of the dramatic Wanaka gardens including the Stuarts Garden - see tab; the beautiful Cromwell and Bannockburn gardens - including Briar Dell; a visit to Arrowtown and the shores of Lake Hayes and a visit to Bendigo. Peonies and Irises were in bloom and the wild mountain thyme in flower.
